India refuses to play asia cup 2025 because of the tensions between india and pakistan. The Indian team can’t play in a tournament that is organised by the ACC whose chief is a Pakistan minister, the source said, referring to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was appointed as the new president of the ACC last month.
However, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rejected recent media reports suggesting that India is planning to pull out of all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events due to growing tensions with Pakistan.
Reports Claimed India Would Boycott ACC Tournaments
According to a report by The Indian Express, unnamed sources claimed that the BCCI had informed the ACC of its decision to skip the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the Men’s Asia Cup scheduled for September. The move was reportedly aimed at isolating Pakistan’s cricketing presence. The report further suggested that the BCCI was aware that an Asia Cup without India would be commercially unviable, as many sponsors are from India.
History of Political Tensions Impacting Cricket
In the past, similar issues have arisen due to strained political ties. Pakistan was the official host of the ICC Champions Trophy, but India refused to travel to Pakistan. As a result, India’s matches were held in Dubai instead of Pakistan. Ironically, Pakistan, the host nation, was eliminated early in the tournament and didn’t progress beyond the initial stages.
Likewise, the Asia Cup followed a hybrid model where India’s matches were hosted in Sri Lanka after BCCI declined to play in Pakistan.
Earlier this month, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir openly called for a complete stop to any cricket matches with Pakistan, including participation in ACC or ICC tournaments.
